Judgement: Long Island installer ranges (one zone $5,000-$8,000, three zones $10,000-$15,000) run about 6 to 9 percent above the NYC installer midpoints, which is inside the gap between the two NYC installers themselves, so no discount or premium is applied; Westchester and Hudson Valley installer prices were not found, so this rests on Long Island only. About heat pumps on Long Island

Nassau County has a cold-winter climate with humid summers, so a heat pump does both jobs. The housing is mostly single-family homes, many Cape and ranch houses built after World War II, with an oil or gas boiler and radiators or baseboard. Homes without ducts are common, which is why ductless systems come up often here.

Suffolk County sits in a cold-winter climate zone, with Long Island Sound and the Atlantic keeping it a little milder than inland New York. Much of the housing is single-family homes built from the 1950s on, many heated with oil or natural gas, and many with a furnace and ducts. Older homes with radiators or baseboard heat usually point to ductless units.
